About the remix
Rap contains rhythm before a remixer touches it: in speech, emphasis and the way a performer occupies a phrase. Xzibit’s voice was All Out’s starting point for Hurt Locker. The source belongs to the 2010 MMX mixtape; this unofficial reworking brings it into the producer’s electronic world.
It is one of several ways the project has worked with vocal material. In early versions of All The Way and A Fractal Space, outside voices helped music develop before the later versions left them behind. Hurt Locker keeps another choice: the original performer’s name and presence remain part of the work.
Beside metalcore, melodic electronics and pop songs, this remix widens the view of All Out’s interests. What connects these sources is not a genre, but the wish to understand what caught the producer’s attention and attempt a response of his own.
