About the remix
Pearl’s Girl belongs to the Underworld of 1996’s Second Toughest In The Infants, music All Out revisited long before this reworking. A live version was already part of his listening in 2018. His own Other Side was still several years away.
The 2023 unofficial reading runs at 141 BPM. It has its own place among his Underworld reworkings, beside Santiago Cuatro from a very different part of the group’s history. One artist’s music can provide several different reasons to return to the studio.
Shikmusik later selected Pearl’s Girl for Sound System Aberration. A personal return continued inside someone else’s programme: familiar music first becomes the material for original work, then acquires a context its maker no longer chooses alone.
