Whole Day Off makes room in the All Out catalogue for the straightforward pleasure of a song. Culpriit’s original appeared on Congo Records in 2018. In this unofficial version, the producer turned towards a voice and a song form that had always existed beside his heavier interests.
He later placed the work alongside Jul Grass, Hold On and I Know. That company reveals a melodic side without announcing it as a new direction. An original theme, Hybrid and a pop song can belong to the same taste.
The openness continued in the producer’s listening, with The Weeknd and Bonobo remaining beside harder electronics. Whole Day Off shows how this music also found room in All Out’s own work. It need not become darker to have personal meaning.
