My Next Number

The next number, and the familiar pleasure of returning to the classics. That was how All Out introduced this 2022 single. It runs for a little over three minutes and needs no elaborate story to declare its attachment to breaks.

Older records never became a static museum in the producer’s musical world. Rennie Pilgrem remained alongside newer discoveries from Bonobo and The Weeknd, and a favourite track could still offer a reason to make something original. My Next Number belongs to the habit of returning for energy rather than museum accuracy. A separate Cuts version also survives.

In the Funky Flavor showcase, the track sits between Estrella Fugaz and Come With Us: a listener-requested remix and a return to The Chemical Brothers. In that company, its title feels almost like a DJ’s gesture. One more record, and another reason not to end the selection just yet.
