First Time EP

Before The Wormhole, there was the more simply named First Time. The theme passed through early collections and All Out’s own mixes before receiving several forms on its EP: a short Edit, an Extended Mix and remixes by The Aluminium Tough and John Lenin. John Lenin’s version made its first appearance here.

Atmosphere and an old-school beat were central to the producer’s description of the piece. That pairing grew within a longstanding attachment to melodic electronic music: Hybrid and BT had places in All Out’s DJ selections alongside harder records. A sense of space did not require the rhythm to retreat. The two could reinforce each other.

First Time EP gives that early identity a release of its own. Two original versions and two outside perspectives show how differently the theme could develop before receiving its later album name. For anyone who arrived through The Wormhole, this is a meeting with a familiar idea before its next transformation.
